Work starts on Dee Park

The transformation of Dee Park estate in Tilehurst, Reading took a significant step forward this week when The Oak Tree public house in Spey Road was demolished in preparation for building 60 brand new Extra Care flats for senior residents of the estate.
 
This marks the first major step in an exciting £150 million project to completely transform the 1960s-built estate over an eight year period. read more

Summer placements strengthen university/business bond

The University of Reading has won funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) that will allow some of its students to engage in summer internships at local businesses this summer.
 
The internships will support the recommendations of last year's government report from the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions by helping to overcome some of the obstacles to participation in the professions amongst under-represented groups. read more

There's no summer break for the staff at the newly formed Reading College. Everyone is busy behind the scenes ensuring that the new merger between Thames Valley University, Oxford & Cherwell Valley College and the Learning and Skills Network offers students and businesses experiences and opportunities greater than the sum of its parts.
 
We managed to grab five spare minutes with Sally Dicketts, principal of the newly formed college, and she explained the reasoning behind the changes as well as throwing new light on the role the organisation is going to play in adding to Reading’s continued development.
 
She said: "Increasingly employers recognise that effective training adds money to the bottom line.
